Maternity What to wear guide for

What to expect from your maternity session

What to wear

Start with whatever makes you feel most like you. That favourite dress you reach for when you want to feel good. That's your best option.

I'd also love you to bring a pair of jeans and one of your partner's white or light-coloured shirts. With a few buttons undone, it's a gorgeous way to show your belly without feeling exposed.

If you're comfortable showing a bit more, a bikini works really well.

I also have some beautiful lace gowns in the studio that give a softer, more editorial look. If you like the idea of the lace gown, bring a nude-coloured bra and underwear to wear underneath.

One thing that really matters: keep anything tight or elastic off your skin for a few hours before your session. That means no fitted waistbands, tight socks or wristwatches. Elastic leaves marks on skin that show up in photos, and they take ages to fade.

Come barefoot. No need to think about shoes at all.

after your session:

If you've booked a weekday session, I'll get you to go for a wander for about 20 minutes while I work my magic. Then you'll come back and view your photos that same day.

If your session is on a Saturday, I'll be in touch to book a separate viewing time during the week, usually about a week later. Viewings run Tuesday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm.

The viewing is the best part. You get to see everything, relive the session and choose your favourites. Allow about an hour.

If your partner or parents were part of the session or want to help choose, I'm happy to find a time that works for everyone. I do need all decision-makers there on the day. If you'd like a second viewing to finalise things, I can arrange that, though a $100 studio fee may apply.

Once your order is placed, everything is ready within about three weeks. Albums take a little longer. I'll be in touch as soon as your artwork arrives to arrange pickup.
