Furbaby & Me What to wear guide
What to wear & pricing guide
Now you’ve booked your session time, it’s time to start thinking about what you will wear.
Wear something you love
Pick something you feel good in and that's comfortable. You'll be sitting on the floor, cuddling your dog, possibly getting climbed on. This isn't the session for anything stiff or fussy. If you wouldn't wear it to the park with your dog, leave it in the wardrobe.
Think about your dog's coat
This is the big one that most people don't think about. If your dog is a white fluff ball, head-to-toe black is going to show every single hair. If your dog is dark, a pale outfit will do the same. You don't need to match your dog, but think about what's going to look good next to them. Earthy tones, soft neutrals, denim and muted colours tend to work well with most coat colours.
Keep it simple
Avoid big logos, busy patterns and anything with slogans across the front. Small logos on pockets are fine. The simpler your outfit, the more the focus stays on you and your dog, which is the whole point.
Layers work well
A nice knit, a jacket you can take on and off, a scarf. Layers give me options during the session and they photograph beautifully. They also help if your dog is a leaner or a paw-placer and you want to switch things up between setups.
Bare feet is best
I recommend bare feet for studio sessions. It keeps everything relaxed and natural, and you don't need to stress about finding the right shoes.
Sort it early
Get your outfit sorted a few days before your session so you're not scrambling on the morning. Try it on, sit on the floor in it, check it in the mirror. If you love it and you can move in it, you're good.
The colour palettes below can give you a starting point.
Blue and white
Pick blue and grey gives you some many versatile options. Shades if blue work really well together, and take away that look of being too similar. It can be great to throw a splash of colour in.
Neutral palette
Neutrals tones always work well together, and create a very natural look. This can be the prefect look if you would like to include some florals for little girls.
Black & grey
Black can be very flattering, so it can be a great choice for parents, especially if you . Pick grey & white means that it’s easier to select clothes for the kids as well.
Pick a palette of colours
This gives your outfits a cohesive feel but without being to “matchy matchy”. You want everyone to coordinate but no-one to stand out more than the others.
What happens after your session:
After your session, I know you'll be dying to see the results. Trust me, the wait is worth it.
At the end of your session I'll book your ordering session, usually about a week later. Ordering sessions run on Tuesdays and Fridays between 9am and 5pm. If you're coming from a distance and you've booked a weekday session, I can arrange your ordering session for the same day.
This is the best part. You get to see your images for the first time and they always look better than you expect. Allow about an hour to view everything and work out your order.
If your partner or family members want to be involved in choosing portraits, make sure they come along. All decision makers need to be at the ordering session. If you'd like a follow-up appointment to finalise anything, that's fine, but a $100 studio fee may apply.
Your order will be ready within three weeks (slightly longer for albums).
I'll be in touch as soon as your artwork arrives to arrange pickup.
